Jim Gagne
Trombone |
|

Jim
Gagne was born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in nearby Port Huron, Michigan. He
earned a Bachelors of Music Education and a Masters of Music in
Trombone Performance from Central
Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. Performances with
CMU’s Jazz Lab 1 earned him citations for outstanding soloist
and composer at the Aquinas Collegiate
Jazz Festival (Grand Rapids, MI) and the
Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival.
Over a period of 10 years, he taught instrumental music at all
levels of public schools. Jim moved to Milwaukee in 2003 after
taking a position as instrumental publications editor at the Hal
Leonard Corporation. |

Jim has performed with many
notable artisits such as Jon Faddis,
Bill Watrous,
Richie Cole,
Louie Bellson, Allen Vizzuti,
and The Temptations, and at such venues as the Detroit-Montreaux
(Ford) Jazz Festival, the North Seas Jazz Festival and
Carnegie Hall. He has also
performed with the Lansing Symphony Big Band, the
Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra,
Big Swing Face, Mr. Lucky’s
Swing Syndicate, Swing Nouveau. Jim has extensive classical
experience, including performing locally with the
Waukesha Symphony Orchestra, the
Concord Chamber Orchestra and
the Menominee Falls Symphony Orchestra.
He has been playing with the All-Star SUPERband since December
of 2006. |
His
influences include Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter,
Michael Brecker and J.J. Johnson. His favorite writers include
Gil Evans, Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer and John LaBarbera.
