Guy
Kammerer has been in love with the big band sound
since he was a boy and got to hear some of the great bands of
the time. Maynard, Buddy, Stan and the Count were all still
swinging (or rocking) and going strong. Later , he really got
excited by Bill Chase, Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears and many
other artists. |

Originally from McHenry, Illinois he
is currently
Director of Bands at Waukesha South High School in
Waukesha, Wisconsin. Previous to this new appointment he was
Director of Bands at Whitnall High School in Greenfield,
Wisconsin for three years. Before that he taught for thirteen
years at Marion High School in Southern Illinois where his
ensembles earned consistent recognition as being among the
finest musical groups in the State of Illinois. |

Guy earned his Bachelor of Music
Education and Master of Music in Trumpet Performance at
Southern Illinois
University in Carbondale. There he studied with Dr. Robert
Allison. He is past President of the Illinois Music Educators
Association District VI and served on the IMEA State Board of
Directors for three years. He also served as District VI Jazz
Chairman for five years and has been involved in a variety of
committees dealing with music education issues and activities. |

He is in demand as a frequent
adjudicator of marching band, concert band and jazz band events.
He has extensive experience conducting clinics and workshops at
Marching Band Camps, Jazz Festivals and at Summer Concert Band
Camps. He has guest conducted at Concert and Jazz Band
Festivals at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky,
Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and in Edwardsville,
Illinois. He has appeared as featured soloist at high
school and college jazz festivals and is former principal
trumpet with the highly regarded Knightwind Ensemble in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. |
He has been active as a professional
performer as band leader and lead trumpet of the GK Orchestra,
Heartland Big Band, The Heartland Swing Band, and a variety of
small groups and ensembles that performed regularly throughout
the Southern Illinois area. His performance credits
include appearances with notables such as Donald O’Connor,
Mickey Rooney, Ray Sullinger,
Don Glasser, Debbie Reynolds, Ron Carter, Mark Colby, Roseanne
Vitro, Dick Contino, The Four Aces, Jamie Aebersold, Gene Stiman
and Buddy Rogers.
