Gary
Christensen
Bass

Gary is the inspirational
leader and founder of the All-Star SUPERband. A
Milwaukee native, Gary studied String Bass with Bernard
Stepner and Roger Ruggeri. As a youth, he studied theory
with John Downey through the Milwaukee Youth Symphony
Orchestra. He was Principal Bassist at MYSO and at the
University Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Gary also played in the UWM
Jazz Ensemble for several years. His experiences include
many years of teaching both String Bass and Bass Guitar at
the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and the Milwaukee Public
School System. |
His experience includes performing in groups of every size, from the All-Star
SUPERband to the trio with local legend Claude Dorsey and Scott Van Domelen. As a professional musician, Gary has
performed with “name” acts in over 35 states. These varied
experiences include; musical theater with several summers at
the Melody Top Theater under conductor Don Yap and both
Holiday On Ice and Ice Capades. In the rock idiom, Gary has
performed locally in many groups with Warren Wiegratz and
Daryl Stuemer. Currently, he is performing with his 16 piece All Star every Thursday at 5:30pm. at Long Wong’s. Gary is also involved in Christian music
ministry where he performs for prisons, Athletics in Action
and River Glen and Countryside Community churches.
